A Summer Update
And how you can help me.
This summer has flown by. I’ve been so pleased to have numerous podcast and radio interviews about Created to Play. I’ve really enjoyed getting to talk about the book, and even more excited to hear from everyone who is messaging me and telling me how the book has been an encouragement to them. I truly feel so grateful to be included in any small way in your play and good work for the Lord.
Also I need your help!
Just as a reminder, reviews are so helpful for authors. If you’ve read Created to Play and are able to write a review on Amazon (and Goodreads if you have it), these reviews are so helpful. My goal is to get to 50 reviews on Amazon- and we are at 11! :) We are the little engine that could, and I know we can get there!
Read-Along-With-Me
Starting next week I plan to start a series that goes along with each chapter of the book. I’ll plan to just add in some background information on that chapter, maybe selections that got deleted, or some further thoughts I have. I’d love for you to follow along and comment back with me!
(Also, I may intersperse other pieces as well as I write. I’ve got a review/giveaway, a poem, and a half-finished article in the works that I’d love to share sometime).
What I’ve been Beholding:
Trust by Hernan Diaz: This was such a thought provoking book for me, I really enjoyed it, not only for the plot, but for what I learned about the craft of writing and structuring of a book.
The Restoration of All Things by Benjamin Vrbicek: I’m going to include a review on this one, but I really enjoyed this book. It encouraged and challenged me, and ultimately gave me hope in the end of the story to come.
Confessions: Still plugging through this after taking a bit of a long break. I’m in the tenth book, and I still love it.
I started to To Live Well by Alan Noble (amazing so far), and I am currently spending my free time trying to finish The Other Bennett Sister so I can talk about it with my daughter who finished it in a day (those were the peak of reading days when you were 13 in the summer with no responsibilities, right?)
Our Play in Pictures
We just got done with the kids’ 4-h projects (as their Maker parents, they love making things!) They made some dioramas, a woodworking project, a blanket, baked food, gift wrapping, and photography. Between all the judgings and my middle child showing our dog, we were making lots of trips to the fairgrounds. Now we’re in crunch time before school starts and my new job teaching 9th grade Literature and Composition at my kids’ co-op!
*Top pictures: We took on a bathroom renovation for our master bath- including tiling the shower and the floor. The top right picture was taken at 3:30 in the morning when we finally finished tiling the floor. We were tired, are tired, and we’ve definitely learned a ton. Perhaps this is also why I love hobbies so much, I really enjoy learning new things. I mean, now I know how to mix the proper consistency of thinset for tiling. Don’t you wish you did? ;)
*Our garden is finally doing amazing! We are so excited. We build raised beds this year and put in all new soil, and we’ve been trying to fertilize better, and it seems to be working!
*And Cow Day returned to Chick-Fil-A! We were moooved to tears of joy. See what I did there? I repeat point one: we are tired.
