Yes it is a challenge. You know a few years ago it was a big point of contention in my heart that my husband wasn't so into me dying my hair when it grayed. It was very important to me that I had to do thst. But really that's slowly been chipped away (not by my husband, this isn't about him at all), but the more I read about life- and as Ephraim Radner so beautifully puts- the givenness of life - I just see so much beauty in portraying it.
Again not a condemnation for all hair dyers, it's just my own example of how I've chosen to embrace this reality.
Thank you for this interesting perspective. It was moving to read
My mom died at 81 and as her body aged, her maturity in faith and godliness made her so beautiful to me. I associate aging with growing in grace as highly desireable because of the beauty of it. It's been 11 years since my mom went to be with the Lord, and the gift of her example stays etched in my mind as a treasure. I want to age like her and I love what you said about how others need us to show our aging. Amen to this! It's a precious gift.
This is SO powerful, true, and timely for our culture. Thank you for shedding light on a topic many would prefer to ignore.
Also, your writing is just beautiful.
Thank you so much, Michelle! It's honestly still a hard word for me some days- the pressure is so strong, but it's a freeing one.
Beautifully said. I definitely heard echos of Noble’s work in there!
He's such a great writer/thinker. If this article pushes anyone new to check out that book, I'll call it a huge win!!
I loved your application of it for women though too. Such a challenge but I believe it is needed.

I'm so sorry about your mother. What a beautiful testament to godliness she left you with. I love that story.
